iPhone documentary

Giant electronics stores that stock the latest electronics, crazy fashion brands, amazing food, cool bars, live music. These are the joys of living in a big city like Tokyo.

Well, they are they joys, if you can afford them. Due in small part to mounting global economic crisis, and due in great part to my financial irresponsibility, I am again without much spending money this month. It's like I'm reliving my old university days...only poorer.

I'm actually fine enjoying the more mundane and less expensive parts of life, but its to live it up sometimes too. To fill the empty vacuum of my consumer consciousness I went out window shopping yesterday. Which of course turning into "real" shopping. I got new glasses.

But to help make the day more fun I decided to photo-document (and post "live" for my expanding global audience) my trip to Shinjyuku. It's not like I don't go there every week, but I thought it would be fun.

The biggest drag to the whole event was my iPhone battery. I was so worried about battery consumption that I didn't really use my phone like I usually do.

I shot using the Pano app, edited with Photogene, and posted to flickr and then twitter via Darkslide and Tweetie. It's a lot of steps, but I hate the photos from the regular camera app and every pic needs some levels adjusting.

Well here is the collection of pics from yesterday.

iPhone Lock 'n' Roll or How I became an old lady.

I knew there was a tendency in me to be a casual gamer. The kind that plays Bedazzle in the office when no one is looking. I've been fighting it a long time, but I lost.

Most of the games I have on my phone I don't really play. I can play Rolando for about 5 mins before I'm bored. Same with Edge and Katamari Damacy. Tap Tap Dance was good until I got to the high levels which just aren't that fun on the iPhone.

Enter "Lock 'n' Roll". It's a simple game with a 4x4 grid where you arrange colored dice to make hands: 4 of a kinds and straights (1,2,3,4). You get different points if the colors are the same or if there is one of each color, and the best 4 hands clear dice from the board. After each turn the placement is "locked" and the dice cannot be moved again. Lesser hands get points, but don't clear the dice from the board. After a certain number of points, you get wild cards (up to 2). The rules aren't thrilling, but game requires some concentration and strategy. Luck plays a pretty important role too, since you don't know what the next 4 dice will be.

The amazing thing is how completely addicted i've become. And based on the Worldwide score board, I've got a long ways to go.

Hooray for You.

"Everybody wants to leave something behind them, some impression, some mark upon the world. And then you think, you've left a mark on the world if you just get through it and a few people remember your name. Then you've left a mark. You don't have to bend the world. I think it's better just to enjoy it. Pay your dues and enjoy it. If you shoot an arrow and it goes real high, hooray for you." - Dorian Corey

Hooray for You.

Just watched Paris is Burning on youtube. After so many years its still amazing. When I think about rich famous people, I think about how busy their lives must be, and how not busy my life is in comparison. But these children had busy lives.
